Announcements

Health Professions Advising is again partnering with Kaplan to offer a discounted MCAT prep class to CSU students and alumni. There are only live online (no in-person) offerings. We are also offering a limited number of scholarships. You can learn more, register for the class, and apply for a scholarship all through this website. Please email us if you have any questions.

The UCHealth Volunteer Program will not accept pre-applications for the Spring semester 2022 at this time. There may be a small number of volunteer positions at Poudre Valley Hospital (PVH) starting in the spring semester that don't include direct patient interactions. We will share further details as we have them in the beginning of spring semester.

Atlantis Webinar: Panel of Top-12 MD Students on How Shadowing in Europe Shaped their Applications (includes Q&A)
This webinar seeks to show one path towards achieving shadowing experiences: to pursue it in Europe during a school break, through organizations like Atlantis, which run observation-only, AAMC-compliant programs. This panel is made up of three current MD students at elite Top 12 universities, all of whom went through the MD application process after having spent a portion of their summer shadowing in a hospital in Europe. This webinar will have two parts: a brief presentation by each presenter and a Q&A where panelists can address questions. This webinar is relevant for any pre-health student in an MD path, but also to those considering DO and PA. Register here.

CSU Events & Opportunities

Passport Scholarship
The current cost of a U.S. passport plus the execution fee is $145.  Students receiving a passport scholarship will bring their application materials to the Office of International Programs Passport Acceptance Facility in Laurel Hall on the CSU campus.  Scholarship recipients will be given a check made out to the U.S. Department of State to pay for the associated fees when they submit their application. Eligibility requirements include: being a U.S. Citizen who does not currently hold a valid U.S. passport (exception for military passports), being a first-time adult applicant (if applicants had a passport when under the age of 16 they are still eligible or if they have an official military passport), being a current CSU undergraduate or graduate student in a degree seeking program, and having financial need. Columbine offers a Nurse Assistants (CNA) training program but also hires RA and PCP positions for students who can't (or aren't ready to) complete the full CNA training. UCHealth in Highlands Ranch is hiring a Medical Assistant (MA) in Plastic Surgery
You must have Basic Life Support, be a Registered Medical Assistant, and Certified Medical Assistant. Under the direction and supervision of a provider or nurse, the MA assists with performing patient care. Performs basic clinical skills and specimen collection. Monitors and communicates changes in patient conditions. Documents patient care provided. Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Maintains examination areas. Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration. Pay is $16-$24/hr depending on experience. University of Michigan Frankel CVC Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program
The University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center is pleased to offer a 10-week summer undergraduate research fellowship to support undergraduate students interested in basic cardiovascular research in the summer of 2022. The program is expected to start the Tuesday after Memorial Day and end August 9, 2022. Exact program dates are subject to change pending the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is jointly funded by the Frankel Cardiovascular Center (FCVC), Esperance Family Foundation and American Heart Association (AHA) to host 30 fellowship positions within the program. Each fellow will be notified of their funding source at orientation. Each fellow will be matched to a laboratory led by a FCVC faculty member and participate in nationally recognized research in areas such as atherosclerosis, genetic cardiomyopathies, blood clotting disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, vascular biology, and heart failure. Fellows are expected to work in their mentor’s lab, attend weekly scientific seminar series, participate in organized social events, and at the end of the program, present their summer research findings at the End of Summer Symposium where fellows give an oral PowerPoint presentation to faculty, staff and peers. The stipend will be paid via bi-weekly paychecks (direct deposit available) at a rate of $15 per hour (pre-tax) for ten weeks of full-time work (40 hours per week). Learn more, and apply here.
